Toronto and Prague sneak into retail’s top 10 most attractive cities worldwide

Hong Kong continues leading the ranking of the most attractive cities to open a store in the world, according to real estate services firm Cbre. Dubai and Taipei occupy the second and third position, respectively.

Toronto and Prague sneak into retail’s top 10 most attractive cities worldwide

 

 

Toronto and Prague, new hot destinations for retail worldwide. The Canadian city and the Czech capital are making their way into the key locations of global retailers. In 2017, Toronto brought in forty new companies, while 37 groups installed in Prague, occupying the seventh and ninth position among the most attractive destinations for retail in the world.

 

Hong Kong lead the chart again for the third year in a row, which is elaborated by retail estate services firm Cbre. Last year, a total of 86 retailers entered the Asian city. Followed at great distance by Dubai and Taipei, with 59 and 52 new retailers’ operating in each one, respectively.

 

London holds the fourth position and is the most attractive European city for retail, while Tokyo completes the top 5 destinations. On the other hand, Madrid is the only Spanish city that sneaks into the key twenty destinations with more retail entrances in 2017. Spain’s capital occupies the seventeenth position, behind the Chinese city of Chengdu and ahead of Düsseldorf (Germany). In 2017, 27 new operators kicked off operations in the streets of Madrid.

 

 

 

 

There are other Asian cities in Cbre’s chart, such as Shenzhen (China), in the tenth position, as well as Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, in the thirteenth place, or Cambodia’s Phnom Penh, in the nineteenth place. According to the report How global is the retail business? The last two cities have attracted over all middle-segment catering and fashion chains.

 

In terms of global retailers’ emitting countries, the United States leads the ranking with ease. 19% of the operators that landed in international markets during 2017 came from the North America’s behemoth. US retailers started operations in 42 foreign countries last year.

Italy and France, on the other hand, held the second and third position. Japan and the United Kingdom complete the first five spots. Spain occupies the tenth place in this classification, behind Sweden and South Korea. China is now in the seventh position.

 

Eventually, the cities with the largest number of international retailers in 2017 were Dubai, Shanghai, London and Abu Dhabi. In these four locations, more than half of the global retailers are present. In this chart, Madrid occupies the fourteenth position, while Barcelona is holding ​​the position number 23.
