Fashion sales in the United Kingdom suffer prior to Christmas. Like-for-like fashion sales in the country have dropped by 3.7% in the week to December 15, according to the BDO High Street Sales tracker.
This is the first negative result of the sector after two consecutive double-digit growth weeks. In-store like-for-like fashion sales dropped by 5.2%. Total like-for-like sales across all categories (apparel, footwear and accessories) increased by 0.28%.
Overall, footwear was down by 4.5% on the same week year-on-year, and high street suffered the largest drop, at 6.2%. Shopping centers experienced a decrease of 3.8% and retail park dropped by 1.6%. The BDO High Street Sales Tracker outlines weekly sales changes of more than 85 retailers with some 10,000 individual stores. These are mainly located on high streets throughout the UK.
