Timberland plans to reforest Africa. The American outwear company is going to plant 26,000 trees in Ghana in collaboration with the online platform Treedom, specialized in reforestation and planting trees. This initiative is part of the company’s commitment to plant fifty million trees in the next five years.
The project under the name Great Green Wall aims to reforest a total of 8,000 kilometers in Africa to fight against problems which affect its population such as hunger, droughts and massive migrations. Timberland’s Forest will absorb 25 million kilos of carbon dioxide and will employ 1,530 farmers.

The proposal focuses on cleaning the air, eliminating carbon and liberating oxygen, to contribute to the world’s climate. The initiative also includes actions such as tree geolocation and tree registering through photos. Since 2001, Timberland has planted more than ten million trees around the world.
This December, the company also offers shoppers the chance to donate a tree to Treedom, and keep track of its plantation via online geolocation.
